A non-disclosure agreement (NDA) is a legal contract through which the parties pledge not to disclose information covered by the agreement and which they need to share, like trade secrets or proprietary information.

  Comprehensive definition of the term non-disclosure agreement

There are two main types of standard non-disclosure agreements - unilateral NDAs and mutual NDAs.
A unilateral NDA is a contract in which one party agrees not to disclose certain information. This is the most frequently used form.
A mutual NDA commits both parties to not sharing the other's information.
