Concise definition of the term pre-settlement risk
Pre-settlement risk is the risk that one party in a contract will fail to meet its contractual obligations, thus resulting in default before the settlement date. This default would end the contract prematurely and may cause a loss to the other party if no insurance against that scenario was taken.
